The enormous wildfires in the US states of California, Oregon and Washington in the western US have now killed 15 people.

The scale of the devastation is so grand that the authorities have not yet been able to map it.

The fire is fueled by intense, dry wind. In Oregon, authorities evacuated half a million people.

At least five cities have been substantially destroyed, according to the state governor. “We have never seen so many fires in our state,” said Governor Kate Brown.

In California, a record 12,500 square kilometres of land has been destroyed by fires and the most massive fire ever recorded.
