Japan Tourism Record Due to Weak Yen and Autumn Colours

Japan welcomed a record number of foreign tourists last month, helped by a weaker yen, making travel to the Asian country cheaper.

According to the Japanese Tourism Bureau, more than 3.3 million visitors visited the country in October. This surpassed the previous monthly record of 3.29 million visitors in July.

Up to and including October, approximately 30.2 million tourists travelled to Japan. That is slightly less than the annual record of 31.9 million set in 2019, before the global border closures during the coronavirus period.

The Tourism Bureau said Japan’s “famous autumn colours” contributed to a rising demand for tourism from many markets in Asia, Europe, and North America last month. This year, eleven countries and regions have surpassed their annual records for the number of visitors to Japan.
