Instagram Wants to Integrate NFTs Soon
That’s what Mark Zuckerberg said. He expects the digital collectibles to come to the social network in the short term.
You will ‘soon’ be able to use NFTs on your Instagram. That’s what Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Instagram parent company Meta, said at the SXSW tech conference in Texas. “We are working to bring NFTs to Instagram shortly.
I’m not ready to announce exactly what it will look like, but in a few months, you’ll be able to bring in some of your NFTs. So hopefully, eventually, you’ll be able to create them in that environment,” Zuckerberg said at the conference.
Competitor Twitter has already built in the option to use an NFT for your avatar on Instagram; that also seems to be a possibility, although Zuckerberg sounds a bit more ambitious than that here. NFTs are digital files that offer people ‘unique ownership’ over, for example, a digital image (not to be confused with copyright).
They have been hyped in recent months, with celebrities paying hundreds of thousands of dollars for NFTs of automatically generated monkeys, for example. However, there is also a lot of criticism of the gems because most NFTs use a very energy-consuming system to encrypt the receipts of the files on the blockchain.
