French Millions of Fines for Privacy Violations From Google and Amazon
Google and Amazon have to pay fines of EUR 100 million and EUR 35 million, respectively in France for violating the privacy of their users.
According to the French privacy watchdog CNIL, the internet giants do not respect the rules around cookies.
CNIL imposed the fines because Google.fr and Amazon.fr install ‘without prior consent’ cookies for personalized advertising on users’ computers.
In addition, the information bars that are displayed when opening the websites do not provide sufficient explanation about the use, refusal and processing of the cookies.
Google and Amazon now need to put the information bars in order. If this is not done within three months, the CNIL can also impose penalties of 100,000 euros per day.
