The digital currency bitcoin is clearly continuing its recent advance. The coin traded Wednesday morning for a record value of more than $ 28,000 each.
In December alone, bitcoin gained 47 percent in value.
At the beginning of this year, the cryptocurrency was worth about $ 8,000, which halved to below $ 4,000 during the first corona wave.
After that, the price rose, especially in the autumn, and now at the end of the year. Other currencies such as ethereum, litecoin and XRP are also on the rise.
Since mid-October, the value has more than doubled, possibly because asset managers are starting to see a profit in it. Another factor is that customers of payment service provider PayPal can pay with bitcoins.
Bitcoin was launched in early 2009 and was only worth a few cents back then.
