Cristiano Ronaldo Breaks Jimmy Greaves Score Record from 1971. Cristiano Ronaldo delivered Real Madrid yesterday with his unprecedented scoring ability again, but also helped himself to a new record.
With Ronaldo’s first two goals, Real won at Celta Vigo (1-4), and the Royal is just another match and a point removed from the La Liga championship.
Ronaldo also broke the scoring record of English striker Jimmy Greaves, from 1971.
Greaves managed to collect 366 goals in the major European leagues, the BBC calculated. He did that in charge of Chelsea, AC Milan, Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United.
Ronaldo, with his two hits, won 367 competition goals and is thus the new record holder.
Until last night, 31-year-old Portuguese was still on par with Gerd Müller (365). Lionel Messi is fourth in the line of European top scorers with 346 goals in La Liga on behalf of Barcelona.
