British Prime Minister Liz Truss Under Fire in Parliament: I’m a Fighter, Not a Quitter

British Prime Minister Liz Truss was confronted for the first time with difficult questions in parliament on Wednesday after the chaos of recent days. “I’m a fighter, not a quitter,” she snapped.

“I have made it clear that I am sorry and that I have made mistakes,” said Truss, who has come under heavy pressure, at the start of the Prime Minister’s Questions, which take place every Wednesday afternoon in the British House of Commons.

Truss, prime minister only a few weeks ago, has been tipsy wildly since her 180-degree turn in tax policy. This was seen as inevitable after the unfunded tax cuts sparked serious turmoil in the financial markets. She also fired her finance minister Kwasi Kwarteng, replacing him with Jeremy Hunt. As a result, her popularity is well below freezing.

A weak performance by Truss during Question Time could further weaken the beleaguered head of government.
