Britain had no choice but to impose a fourteen-day quarantine on all travellers arriving from France on Saturday due to rising corona infections there, Transport Minister Grant Shapps said Friday.
The British government broadcasted on Thursday that it would impose a quarantine on travellers from France, the Netherlands, Aruba and Malta because Covid-19 infections are too high there.
France warned it would take countermeasures.
On Friday, Shapps said he sympathized with travellers but shouldn’t be completely surprised given the volatile situation surrounding the Covid-19 pandemic.
“It’s a dynamic situation, and I don’t think anyone would want us to do anything other than protecting public health and safety,” Shapps told Sky News.
“That does mean that if we see countries exceed a certain number of cases, we have no choice but to act,” he added.
