Also Pro-Palestinian Protests in North America
Also, in the United States and Canada, thousands of people have demonstrated against Israeli airstrikes in the Gaza Strip.
According to local media, this happened in cities such as New York, Los Angeles, Boston, Philadelphia, Atlanta, Toronto, Ottawa and Montreal.
In Winnipeg, Canada, pro-Palestinian and pro-Israeli protesters faced each other. The police separated the groups, CBC reports. In Toronto, an estimated 2,500 to 5,000 people took part in a pro-Palestinian protest. Several dozen counter-protesters had also come to Nathan Phillips Square with Israeli flags.
About 2,000 people demonstrated in the Bay Ridge neighbourhood of New York. The New York Post newspaper included supermodel Bella Hadid, who is of Dutch and Palestinian descent. Protesters had brought with them signs saying “End Israeli Apartheid” and “Freedom for Gaza”.
The violence in the Gaza Strip has also sparked protests in Australia and European cities. The Palestinian Hamas movement has been firing large-scale rockets at Israel for about a week, which has responded by bombing targets in the Gaza Strip.
Gaza authorities have reported nearly 150 deaths, including 41 children, since the outbreak of violence began. At least ten people died in Israel, including two children.
