US Postman Hires Storage Facility to Dump Mail that He Could Not Deliver

An American postman thought he had too little time to deliver all mail items and therefore rented a storage room in which he kept all sorts of carefree letters. On 12 February he will hear from the judge what his sentence is.

Jason Delacruz worked as a postman in Chesapeake in the US state of Virginia. He experienced stress and said he was under time pressure to deliver all mail on his round.

For $ 49 a month, he rented a warehouse in Virginia Beach to dump the mail he couldn’t deliver, CNN reports.

The postman maintained his system from the end of 2018 to May 2019, when he was caught. The police found at least 5000 pieces of mail, including one package, 115 magazines and newspapers, and 97 copies of “first-class” mail, such as letters from the tax authorities, insurance companies and banks.

The vast majority, 4700 postal items, were advertising. Jason Delacruz himself joined the Postal Service, where he had worked for fourteen months.

The man already acknowledged last August that he had withheld postal items, a criminal offence. He claimed that he intended to bring the overdue mail items to the people, but that it never happened because he was always lagging.
