Cyril Ramaphosa Sworn as 6th Elected South African President. Cyril Ramaphosa was sworn in as President of South Africa on Saturday. This happened to around 40,000 spectators in a rugby stadium in the capital, Pretoria.
The African National Congress (ANC) of Ramaphosa achieved a majority of 57.51 percent in the elections of 8 May.
66-year-old Ramaphosa became president of South Africa in February last year after Jacob Zuma resigned under pressure from the ANC after nine years of reign. He is now starting an official five-year term.
The ANC has been in power all the time since Nelson Mandela’s victory in 1994.
The party of the famous anti-apartheid activist had never fallen below the limit of 60 percent of the votes in the last quarter of a century.
This has happened in the previous elections. Voters grumble about corruption scandals and high unemployment.
