London Luton Airport suspended all flights until noon (local time) on Wednesday due to a fire in one of its car parks, which partially collapsed due to the fire.
The fire was caused by a vehicle fire that spread in Terminal Car Park 2, the airport said. It is not yet known what caused the vehicle to catch fire.
Luton Airport, which handled more than 13 million passengers last year, said in a statement that people should not travel to the airport as access is “severely restricted”. The airport’s website states that approximately eighty commercial passenger flights would depart or arrive there until noon.
Luton Airport, about 25 miles north of central London, is a hub for budget airlines, including easyJet and Wizz Air. Five people, including four firefighters and an airport worker, have been hospitalized, according to the local ambulance service. Another person was treated at the scene.
