Wealthy travellers flying with Qatar Airways will soon no longer be able to nap in one of the luxurious lounge chairs in first class. The airline will scrap it in the next generation of long-haul aircraft.
CEO Akbar Al Baker states that the return on the seats is no longer worth the investment.
Moreover, the business class now offers the same benefits. “Why would you invest in a subclass of an airplane that already offers you all the amenities you get in first class?” Al Baker said in an interview with Bloomberg news agency. That is why the airline only wants to invest in business class in future Boeing 777X aircraft.
Qatar Airways’ intention to scrap first class comes at a special time. Other airlines benefit from the high demand for more luxurious aircraft seats. For example, Air France and Lufthansa decided to double their offer. Carsten Spohr, CEO of Lufthansa, previously indicated that the front rows of his planes have never been so full.
