With the Profile Transfer function, Netflix caters to people who lived together but later left. From now on, they can take their preferences with them to their new destination.
Profile Transfer has been tested in several countries since March and is now formally launched. It allows you to transfer your personal suggestions, watch history, your list, saved games and other settings to a new account.
Think of young people who first watch their parents but later live alone or housemates and ex-partners who move. It prevents you from having to start over from scratch.
Of course, the feature also pushes users towards their own paying account. Netflix previously indicated that it wants to tackle practices such as shared accounts.
For a long time, Netflix tolerated some users sharing their accounts with friends or family who doesn’t live in the same place to discourage it in the long run.
