Russia has announced a temporary ceasefire on Monday for the Mariupol steel plant area. According to Ukrainian officials, about a thousand civilians reside on the enormous terrain of Azovstal.
The defence ministry in Moscow has said that Russian troops will lay down their weapons so that civilians can leave in the direction of their choice.
However, it is unclear when the ceasefire will last and whether it will be declared more often. Earlier, the complex defenders massively did not heed Russian ultimatums to surrender.
Russian President Vladimir Putin last week ordered an end to the attack on the factory site. It had to be surrounded. The previous weekend, an adviser to the Ukrainian president said that Russian troops were still trying to storm Azovstal.
