New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern has postponed her wedding to partner Clarke Gayford due to the corona pandemic.
The prime minister proclaimed at a press conference on Sunday that the government is taking additional measures in contradiction of the spread of the coronavirus because the first cases of the omikron variant have been discovered in the country.
Face masks are mandatory in shops and public transport, among other places. A maximum of 100 vaccinated people are also allowed at events.
Ardern said thousands of other New Zealanders had been affected much more severely by the coronavirus than themselves, including those unable to be with a seriously ill loved one. According to the British channel Sky News, Ardern’s wedding will occur next weekend.
In New Zealand, a country with about 5 million inhabitants, about 15,000 infections have been detected since the start of the corona pandemic. The virus has claimed 52 lives in New Zealand.
