Netflix is Growing But Remains Below Expectations
Streaming service Netflix has 221.8 million subscribers. This means it remains just below its own expectations of 222 million.
For the current quarter, the streaming service also targets only 2.5 million new subscribers compared to 4 million in the first quarter of 2021.
Shares of Netflix immediately lost 12 percent in after-hours trading. Netflix took full advantage of the corona crisis and the success of series such as ‘Squid Game’ and the last season of ‘La casa de papel’.
Subscription price increases may have undermined Netflix’s popularity somewhat. The company recently made subscriptions more expensive in the United States and Canada
On the other hand, Netflix is getting more and more competition. Disney, Amazon and HBO are becoming more and more successful.
