British Government Relaxes Corona Rules for Vaccinated People

The British government will ease its corona policy for fully vaccinated people in England next month. They will no longer have to self-isolate from August 16 if someone in their environment turns out to be infected with the virus, reports the BBC.

Not everyone with two shots immediately escapes the isolation obligation. “If someone gets a second dose just before or shortly after August 16, they have to wait two weeks,” said responsible minister Sajid Javid. However, he said that minors would no longer have to isolate themselves in the event of an infection in their environment.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson had previously announced that almost all corona restrictions would expire on July 19. People then no longer have to wear mouth caps, and keeping a distance is no longer necessary in England. Other British territories have their own corona policy.

Minister Javid expects that this relaxation could lead to a significant increase in the number of corona cases. According to him, these can initially double to about 50,000 infections per day and later possibly increase further to 100,000.

The authorities still dare to cancel the measures because a large part of the population has now been vaccinated. About 64 percent of Britons have had two doses of vaccine.
