WHO Warns of New Corona Wave in Europe. The favourable development of the corona figures in Europe has ended after more than two months.
So says the European branch of the World Health Organization, which warns that a new wave of contamination is inevitable if citizens and governments show no discipline.
According to the WHO, the number of new corona infections showed a downward trend for ten weeks in a row, but according to the WHO, it is now going in the wrong direction. “The number of cases rose by 10 percent last week,” said regional chief executive Hans Kluge of the health organization.
Kluge warned that despite “huge efforts” by countries, millions of people still remain unvaccinated in the WHO’s Europe region. This includes EU member states such as the Netherlands and countries such as Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan in Central Asia.
The doctor cites several causes of the increase in the number of infections. People are meeting up with each other more often, more travel is taking place, and all kinds of measures are being removed to prevent the virus from spreading. Meanwhile, the more contagious Delta variant is spreading.
