The United States has halted its search for debris from two unidentified flying objects shot down over North America this month. That says the US Northern Command, the US military command for the North American region.
It concerns the debris of the objects that were brought down over Alaska and Lake Huron.
Despite a systematic search of the area, including aerial images and underwater scans, no debris was found, it sounds in a statement. In Alaska, freezing temperatures and sea ice also played a role in the decision to halt the operation.
US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin agreed with the recommendation to call off the search. However, a search for a third object brought down over Canada’s Yukon Territory is still underway.
The US military also shot down a suspected Chinese spy balloon early this month. Debris has been located and recovered off the coast of the southeastern state of South Carolina.
“The last pieces have been transferred to the FBI laboratory in Virginia for counterintelligence. Just as happened with previous debris found on the surface and underwater,” the statement said.
The US said that the objects shot down over Canada, Alaska and Lake Huron were likely objects belonging to a private company or research institute.
