According to Ukraine, the Russians left the city of Chernihiv, the main place between the Ukrainian capital Kyiv and the border with Russia and Belarus.
There are still some Russian troops in the area around the city, the governor of the northern region reports. The highway between the city and Kyiv will reopen so that help can be delivered.
The fact that The Russians have abandoned Chernihiv seems to confirm the impression that the Russians are abandoning their plan to conquer Kyiv. Instead, the Moscow regime is adjusting its strategy to focus on eastern Ukraine, where most of the Russian-speaking Ukrainians live. But Western intelligence services warn that it could also be a diversion and that the Russian troops north of Kyiv are only taking up new positions.
The mayor of Chernihiv previously reported that the city is 70 percent destroyed. He compared the fate of his city with that of Butya, Kharkiv and Mariupol. Chernihiv has several medieval churches and monasteries. Before the war, more than 285,000 people lived there.
