Ukraine and Russia have reached agreements for ten humanitarian corridors in the war-ravaged country by Saturday.

Ukrainian Deputy Prime Minister Irina Vereshchuk said citizens trying to leave Mariupol must use their own vehicles because buses do not pass through Russian checkpoints.

Just over 37,600 people have been evacuated to safer areas in Ukraine via the agreed escape routes earlier this week, President Volodymyr Zelensky said Friday. This mainly concerned residents of Mariupol. The port city has been seriously affected by the war.

According to Zelensky, the situation there is “tragic”, and the Russian army does not allow humanitarian aid to be sent to the city.
