Twitter Wants to Charge Higher Prices on the iPhone
Twitter wants to charge paying customers more money if they pay for Apple’s iPhones via the app, tech news site The Information reports based on insiders.
For example, a Twitter Blue subscription would have to pay $ 11, while the same service would have to cost $ 7 if customers pay via the browser.
With those possible price differences, Twitter may oppose Apple’s policy for payments within apps that run on its iOS operating system. From those amounts, Apple withholds a commission of 30 percent, which has already brought a lot of criticism to the tech company.
Twitter and Apple did not immediately respond to a request for comment from the Reuters news agency.
Initially, Elon Musk, the new owner and boss of Twitter, planned to charge $7.99 for Twitter Blue. Instead, the plan is to give subscribers a blue check mark against their account for a fee, a label that more famous users of the app now get for free after checks by Twitter to prevent confusion.
Musk recently lashed out at Apple in a series of tweets, complaining about iOS payment commissions, among other things. However, after a visit to Apple headquarters and a conversation with CEO Tim Cook, Musk said that a misunderstanding about Twitter’s removal from the App Store for iOS had been cleared up.
