Trump Media & Technology Group filed a lawsuit in the US state of Florida on Wednesday against Brazilian Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes.
The New York Times reported that Trump’s company accuses the justice of censoring right-wing voices on social media in the US.
The company behind Truth Social is joining forces with video platform Rumble in the case. De Moraes ordered that platform, based in Florida, to remove the accounts of several right-wing Brazilian commentators. According to the American plaintiffs, this violates the constitutional right to freedom of expression in the US.
Although Trump’s company was not subject to De Moraes’s order, it says it is being affected because it allegedly uses technology from Rumble. He says that if the platform is affected by Judge De Moraes’s move, Trump’s company could suffer.
According to The New York Times, the indictment comes at a remarkable time. A few hours earlier, the Brazilian Public Prosecutor’s Office judge had been asked to arrest Jair Bolsonaro, a former president and ally of President Donald Trump.
