The UK has reached the target of 200,000 corona tests per day. Health Minister Matt Hancock has announced that. The government wanted this to be achieved by the end of May.
“Achieving our goal of running 200,000 tests per day is an important milestone,” Hancock said in a statement. He says the tests can help control the spread of the virus and save lives.
In the UK, 38,489 people have died from the virus. 113 deaths were reported on Sunday. The number of infections is 274,762.
Prime Minister Boris Johnson came under fire on Saturday from scientists who believe the British government is easing the lockdown too quickly.
Foreign Minister Dominic Raab refuted that on Sunday.
“Gently easing the measures is the right step right now. We are doing this carefully and based on science.”
