Taiwan is organizing military maneuvers this week, including live ammunition, to simulate a defense of the island against a Chinese invasion, while Beijing conducts new exercises around the island.
This was announced by spokesman Lou Woei-jye of the Eighth Army Corps on Monday.
Taiwan’s armed forces will train for a landing in the Pingtung region in the extreme south of the island on Tuesday and Thursday, the military said. Several hundred soldiers and about forty howitzers are deployed.
Lou said the exercises were already planned and that they were not a response to the ongoing Chinese exercises.
