Holidaymakers in and to the United Kingdom should expect delays and cancellations at Gatwick Airport near London this summer holiday.
At Britain’s second-largest airport, employees will strike for eight days over the next few weeks in the middle of the high season.
According to the Unite Union, nearly a thousand employees of check-in counters and baggage handlers, among others, will participate in the strike on July 28 to August 1 and August 4 to 8. They are not satisfied with their wages.
“Given the scale of the strike, delays and cancellations are inevitable,” says Unite. From Gatwick, mainly holiday flights go to the south of Europe.
There is already a strike in Italy on Saturday. Ita Airways has already cancelled at least 133 flights. Many cancellations are also expected from other carriers.
