Smoke Alarm Goes off Aboard the ISS Space Station
A smoke alarm has gone off in a Russian module of the International Space Station, the Russian space agency Roscosmos reported.
According to Russian media, cosmonauts have smelled burnt plastic. However, work on board the station has not been disrupted. The alarm would have gone off while charging batteries. What exactly went wrong is unknown.
The alarm went off at night in the Zvezda module, which serves as a living space for cosmonauts. Russian media report based on communication between the ISS and ground teams that the Russian Oleg Novitski had seen and smelled smoke.
French astronaut Thomas Pesquet said the smell of burnt plastic had blown over from the Russian part of the station to the American part. As a precaution, an air filter has been turned on to remove possible smoke from the air.
All systems of the ISS should work as they should, Roscosmos reports. A spacewalk is scheduled for later in the day, and that too can continue as usual.
