Samsung Wins $ 6 Billion 5G Contract
South Korean Samsung has signed a $ 6.6 billion contract to install and maintain network equipment for Verizon in the US. It is a crucial step to realize the tech company’s 5G ambitions.
The contract will run for five years and includes 5G equipment, although it is not immediately clear how much of the equipment is actually for 5G.
Samsung seems to seize the opportunity to profile itself as an international 5G player.
“With this new long-term contract, we will continue to push the boundaries of 5G innovation to improve mobile experiences for Verizon customers,” said a press release.
Samsung will control about 3% of the global telecom network market in 2019, according to figures from Dell’Oro Group.
This makes it a small player, compared to 28% of Huawei, 16% of Nokia and 14% of Ericsson.
