The Kremlin says it needs more information before it can respond to an invitation from US President Donald Trump. He wants Russia to participate in the next summit of the G7.

Trump called the current G7 composition this weekend “obsolete.”

In addition to Russia, he also wants South Korea, Australia and India to join the next top of the important industrial countries. The president called it a “G10 or G11”.

The G7 consists of the United Kingdom, Japan, Canada, France, Germany, Italy and the USA. They meet annually to discuss economic policy.

Russia was part of the G7’s predecessor, the G8. However, Moscow was no longer welcome after the annexation of the Ukrainian Crimea peninsula.

The Russian government reacted cautiously to Trump’s statements on Monday.

According to a Kremlin spokesman, it is still unclear whether this is an official proposal and what role the new participants would have. “We don’t know the details yet.”
