The hostage-taker wanted to contact the Iranian embassy. Furthermore, his motives for the kidnapping remain unclear, writes Le Parisien. He would not have acted from a terrorist point of view.
The man claimed that he had an armed accomplice outside the building. The police closed the Rue des Petites Écuries and a large part of the district as a precaution.
