Pandora sold much more jewellery in the past quarter despite stores remaining closed due to lockdown measures. In the United States, the most prominent jewellery manufacturer globally has benefited from the corona support that American households received.
The Danish company also increased its sales around the industry’s important Mother’s Day.
Pandora’s turnover increased by 7 percent in the second quarter compared to 2019, the year before the corona crisis. Compared to the same period last year, sales increased by 62 percent. At that time, many more stores were closed due to lockdown measures. Last quarter, 15 percent of Pandora’s stores were closed.
In the US, sales more than doubled compared to last year. But also in comparison with 2019, turnover in that country increased sharply by 63 percent.
Pandora, known for its charm bracelets, among other things, reports that the impact of the corona pandemic on production in the second quarter was minimal. The company’s jewellery is only made in Thailand, where the number of infections has increased in recent times. As a result, Pandora is building additional inventories to less impact a possible outbreak in the production facilities. Thousands of new employees have been hired for this purpose.
Worldwide, about 26,000 people work for Pandora, of which 11,400 are in Thailand. The jewellery that the company makes is sold in more than 6,700 stores in more than a hundred countries.
