Nokia Signs A Large Contract with Indian Airtel
Finnish telecom provider Nokia has signed a multi-year contract with Airtel, one of the largest Indian mobile telephony operators.
That reports Nokia Tuesday. The agreement will lay the foundation for the development of 5G in India.
The contract is worth nearly a billion dollars, a source close to the file reports to the French news agency AFP.
The Finnish company will provide the equipment to allow “Airtel to increase the capacity of its networks, especially 4G, and improve the customer experience,” it said.
“These networks (…) will provide Airtel with the best possible platform for launching 5G networks across the country,” it said.
The rollout of the networks should be completed by the end of 2022. With a population of 1.3 billion people, India is one of the largest telecom markets in the world.
Nokia expects the country to have 920 million unique mobile telephony customers within five years.
