No Humanitarian Corridors in Ukraine on Monday Either

No humanitarian corridors will open in Ukraine on Monday for the second day in a row. The government in Kyiv cites Russian shelling as the reason.

Since the outbreak of the war, Russia and Ukraine regularly agreed on escape routes for civilians. However, Ukrainian Deputy Prime Minister Irina Vereshchuk said it was decided not to open humanitarian corridors on Monday for security reasons.

Negotiations with Russia were “long and complicated,” Vereshchuk said. Among other things, corridors for residents of the port city of Mariupol were discussed. The deputy prime minister says that it is trying to reopen corridors as soon as possible.

Tens of thousands of people were evacuated daily to safer areas in Ukraine via the escape routes at the beginning of March. Now it often involves several thousand citizens per day.
