Nigerian Senator Ike Ekweremadu was found guilty of attempted organ trafficking by a London court on Thursday. He had tried to have a young man’s kidney removed for a transplant to his daughter.
The politician transferred a 21-year-old street vendor from Lagos to the UK by private jet. The young man himself testified in court that he was transferred to his knowledge for a job.
He was told that the medical tests he underwent were necessary for a visa. In the end, the man was unsuitable as a donor.
In addition to the senator, his wife and a doctor who represented as an intermediary were found guilty of conspiracy in the case. Their daughter Sonia (25), who was to receive the kidney, was acquitted.
