Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu holds Iran responsible for an explosion near an Israeli ship. “It was an Iranian operation. Clearly,” Netanyahu said.
The freighter MV Helios Ray was damaged in the Gulf of Oman last week. An explosion punched holes in the hull, but there were no known casualties. It is still unclear what caused the explosion.
Netanyahu said on the radio that his country is confronting Iran across the region. The interview was broadcast after Syria reported an Israeli missile attack.
The Syrian air defence is said to have brought down several projectiles. Israel has not confirmed that it is behind that attack.
An observation group says the rocket fire was aimed at an area south of the Syrian capital Damascus. There are said to be troops of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard and the Hezbollah movement, an ally of Tehran.
