Microsoft Would Like to Spawn EU Around Acquisition Activision Blizzard
Reuters writes that Microsoft would make several commitments to the European Commission next week. First, the company wants to remove concerns about the acquisition of Activision Blizzard.
Earlier this month, the European Commission started an in-depth investigation into the acquisition and is concerned about the competition in the video games market. It shares these concerns with, among others, Sony, which is fiercely against the acquisition.
The company states that the Games of Activision Blizzard will soon only play on the Xbox, Microsoft’s game console. Sony has its own competitive game console, the PlayStation.
Stakeholders can object to the takeover at the European Commission until January. After that, the European Commission wants to take a final decision on 11 April 2023 at the latest. But now Microsoft would like to be ahead of the investigation with some commitments, reports Reuters news agency.
Microsoft is said to say, among other things, that the games of Activision Blizzard will (also) be released for the PlayStation in the coming ten years.
The acquisition of Activision Blizzard by Microsoft was announced early this year. With $ 69 billion, it is one of the biggest acquisitions in Gamesland and would make Microsoft the world’s third-largest gaming company.
