Unilever food brands will stop advertising targeting children under 16 by January 2023. The company behind ice cream brands such as Magnum, Ola and Ben & Jerry’s says it wants to help parents make healthier choices for their children.

Unilever announced, among other things, that it would no longer target its advertising and social media messages to an audience under the age of 16. In addition, the British group will no longer collect and store data about children in that age category.

In addition, Unilever will publicly disclose which social media influencers receive commissions from the group. Unilever also wants the vlogs and videos of influencers it collaborates with to become less attractive to children.

According to Unilever, the measures, which apply to all food and drink brands, go further than the agreements made by the food industry in most countries. So far, the standard has been that advertisements for food and drink should not be aimed at children under 13 years old.
