Instagram Kept Track of Deleted Photos for More Than A Year. Due to an error, Instagram still kept photos that were deleted by the user for a long time.
It is not unusual for a deleted photo on an online service to remain on the servers for several weeks, up to 90 days, without the user or others having direct access to it.
But with Instagram, security researcher Saugat Pokharel was still able to request photos more than a year after removal.
Pokharel requested a copy of his photos and posts from Instagram last October, according to Techcrunch, and found that data he deleted more than a year ago was still in that data download.
He reported the problem to Instagram, which has now recently fixed the error.
The company admits that it is a bug in the system that it recently fixed. Pokharel also received a $ 6,000 reward for discovering the flaw.
