Russian Finance Minister Anton Siluanov will be digitally present at a G20 meeting next week. This was reported by the government of Indonesia, which will chair the partnership this year.
The partnership’s ministers and chairmen of central banks from G20 countries will meet in Washington on April 20.
Russia’s invasion of Ukraine has made Russia’s participation in G20 meetings controversial. For example, US President Joe Biden called for the expulsion from the G20 last month. The United States has also indicated that it will not attend the full summit of the world’s largest economies on the Indonesian island of Bali if Russia is also present. The G20 meeting is scheduled for this fall.
The Indonesian Ministry of Finance is also considering inviting Ukraine to next week’s consultations. That would give the country, which is not part of the G20, an opportunity to discuss the consequences of the war.
The G20 comprises 19 major industrial countries, including China, Russia and the US, and the European Union. Their economies together account for about 80 percent of the global economy.
