Google Infringes Sonos Patents
In a preliminary ruling, a US trade court finds that Google infringes five patents of speaker manufacturer Sonos.
The decision is a precursor to a final ruling expected in mid-December. If followed, it could lead to a sales or import ban on specific Google smart speakers.
Google has not yet commented on the decision. However, Sonos said in response to Reuters that it was happy and that this “confirms the blatant violation by Google.”
Sonos and Google are not only involved in patent cases in the US. Legal discussions between the two are also ongoing in a few European countries
They also work together; for example, some speakers from Sonos contain speech technology from Google.
