Fewer Smartphones Sold Due to Chinese Lockdowns and Inflation
Worries about rising prices are hampering smartphone sales. According to market researcher Canalys, manufacturers sold eleven percent fewer phones in the first quarter of this year than a year earlier, partly because people have started to pay more attention to costs now that everything is becoming more expensive.
In addition, strict lockdowns in China put a brake on purchasing new devices.
Smartphone sellers are also still dealing with great uncertainty due to the war between Ukraine and Russia, according to Canalys vice president Nicole Peng. The decline in smartphone sales has not been so great since the start of the corona crisis.
Samsung sold the most smartphones. According to the researchers, the South Korean group had a market share of 24 percent, taking over the top spot from iPhone manufacturer Apple. The Chinese brands Xiaomi, Oppo and Vivo fill the other spots in the global top five.
