Facebook is Investing 1 Billion Dollars in first Asian Data Centre
Social network Facebook is investing 1 billion dollars in the construction of a new data centre in Singapore, the first of the company in Asia.
The massive server room has to open its doors in 2022, according to Reuters. The building is 170,000 square meters in size and offers work for hundreds of people.
Facebook is building its data centre close to competitor Google. That tech giant will invest $ 850 million in expanding its location.
The social network has long had the ambition to grow on the Asian market. There are the most internet users who are not yet on Facebook at the moment.
According to rumours, Facebook also wants to conquer China, but the data centre will probably not help. The Chinese government finds it increasingly necessary that the tech companies active in that country also have their servers there.
