Death Toll After Attack on Hotel in Somalia Rises to 21

The attack on the Hayat hotel in Mogadishu, the capital of Somalia, has left 21 civilians dead. The Somali health minister announced this on Sunday. 117 were also injured.

 

The attack, claimed by the Islamist terror group al-Shabaab, ended after about 3 p.m. Saturday night. All attackers were eliminated.

The attackers stormed the hotel on Friday, popular with government employees, journalists and businessmen. At least two explosives were activated in the attack, and the terrorists fired round.

Dozens of hotel guests and staff were freed, but on Saturday, the terrorists still held an unknown number of people hostage.
