DDoS Attack on Telegram after the Hong Kong Protests
DDoS Attack on Telegram after the Hong Kong Protests. Message service Telegram has fallen victim to a cyber attack that is probably coordinated from China.
That’s what Pavel Durov, the company’s CEO said on Thursday. According to him, the ongoing protest in Hong Kong is the underlying reason.
The demonstrators in Hong Kong use Telegram to organize the protests and to stay out of the picture of the authorities. The Telegram reported on Wednesday that it had to do with a “powerful” DDoS attack.
Users in different regions could have connection problems, the messaging service warned.
In a DDoS attack, a computer system is flooded with data traffic. Other devices are all sent simultaneously to the target server, which collapses under pressure and becomes challenging to reach.
