The Chinese city of Xi’an, world-famous for the terracotta army that has been excavated there, is testing its 13 million inhabitants for the coronavirus.

The authorities have decided that because of a new outbreak. There are concerns that the virus will spread considerably prior to a period when many people go on a trip.

On Tuesday, 42 new infections were registered in the city, bringing the total since December 9 to 91. Schools and childcare locations are closed and various indoor locations where many people come too. According to Chinese state media, office workers must have a negative test result of no more than two days old.

Strict measures are limiting the spread of the coronavirus in China, but the country is faced with outbreaks every now and then. Preventing infections is now extra important because the Chinese New Year will be celebrated in just over a month, a holiday for which many Chinese travels to family. Shortly thereafter, the Beijing Olympics will begin.
