China has sharply criticized the “hasty withdrawal” of US troops from Afghanistan and US foreign policy.
Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said in a telephone conversation with his American counterpart Antony Blinken that “the facts have shown once again how difficult it is to artificially impose a foreign model on countries with entirely different histories, different cultures and different domestic conditions.
Solving problems with power politics and military means only exacerbates those problems.”
China is ready to continue talks with the US about an orderly transition to a new regime in Afghanistan to prevent another civil war and another humanitarian disaster, Wang Yi said. According to the minister, Afghanistan should be encouraged to set up an open-minded and inclusive political system that fits the circumstances of that country.
Wang Yi recalled that China and the US are both members of the United Nations Security Council and should coordinate and cooperate more.
Washington must not “willfully oppose China and harm the legitimate rights and interests of the People’s Republic. On the other hand, it hopes that China will cooperate” on the international stage.
