Both the Americans and the Chinese come back somewhat to the aggressive tone that was hit in the trade conflict between the two countries.
US President Donald Trump said yesterday during a dinner at the White House that he feels trade negotiations are going to “be successful” when he meets his Chinese colleague Xi Jinping at the G20 summit in Japan in a few weeks.
Positive sounds also came from the Chinese side. Top diplomat Wang Yi, for example, spoke of a win-win situation that is possible if “both sides are smart enough to meet each other’s requirements”.
The Americans raised taxes on about $ 200 billion worth of Chinese goods last week and are considering additional import rates on about $ 300 billion worth of products.
The Chinese slammed back by raising import rates on about $ 60 billion worth of American goods from June 1.
