British Minister Wants to Warn Netflix That The Crown is Fiction
British Culture Secretary Oliver Dowden thinks Netflix should warn that The Crown’s story is fictional.
Dowden told British media that he would send a letter requesting the streaming service to add a report to the series about the royal family.
According to the minister, the show is “a beautifully produced fictional work,” he said. However, as with other TV shows, Netflix must clearly state in a warning message that it is fiction.
“Without it, I fear that a generation of viewers who have not witnessed these events will mistake fiction for fact.”
Dowden’s comment follows increased criticism from royalty reporters, among others, about “untruths” in The Crown. That followed after the release of the fourth season on November 15.
The new series includes the problematic relationship between Prince Charles and Diana and is about her eating disorder.
Despite the criticism, the series is still popular. Last week, 29 million people watched the series, according to British media.
