Biden Celebrates Ukrainian Independence on Holiday

US President Joe Biden reiterated his support for Ukraine on Ukraine’s Independence Day on Wednesday.

 

In addition to congratulating, he states that this day is not only a celebration of the past but also confirms that “Ukraine proudly remains and will remain a sovereign and independent nation.”

The president said that Ukrainians inspire the world with their “extraordinary courage and dedication to freedom.” The Russian invasion of the country lasted exactly half a year on the day of independence. According to Biden, Ukrainians have recently proven to be “resolute and strong” against Russia.

Biden acknowledges that this year’s holiday, which marks the 1991 secession from the Soviet Union, is “bittersweet” because of the thousands of deaths killed during the war and the millions who have fled the violence. “But six months of relentless attacks have only increased Ukrainians’ pride in themselves, their country, and independence.”

To help Ukraine in the fight for sovereignty, the United States is again sending arms aid. This package worth 2.98 billion dollars is the largest that Ukraine has received from the Americans since the start of the war. Biden officially announced the support in his statement Wednesday, after government officials previously.
